Couples Counseling

"Love is the ability and willingness to allow those that you care for to be what they choose for themselves without any insistence that they satisfy you."
- Wayne Dyer

If your current relationship is causing you and/or your partner emotional distress, it is essential to seek help as soon as possible. Research indicates that, while certain communication skills are helpful during times of distress, hopelessness that has endured for a significant period of time can be damaging and very difficult to overcome in a couple. If you are experiencing any of the following in your relationship, I can help you and your partner or spouse alleviate tension and distress, and later help you rebuild closeness and intimacy:

  • Frequent and intense arguments

  • Problems in communicating, or lack thereof

  • Lack of support from your partner

  • Frequent feelings of anger, resentment or bitterness

  • Lack of sexual arousal or enjoyment

  • Lack of interest or affection

  • Infidelity

  • Feeling mistreated, misunderstood

My goal in couples counseling is to teach you and your partner or spouse how to interact when friction occurs, in order to resolve differences with respect to each person's needs and individuality.  I have participated in specialized training from "The Couples Clinic" in Geneva, Illinois, based on John Gottman's research that identifies 10 habits of successful couples.  Couples in counseling have experienced significant shifts in how they view each other and interact with one another and report greater satisfaction with their relationship.

Outcomes of couples counseling:

Fewer and less intense arguments

Greater understanding of each other's unique needs

Increased ability to communicate differences of opinion

More willingness to consider each other's needs and opinions

Renewed desire for each other

Better ability to resolve conflicts as they arise

Less resentment; more appreciation for each other

You can have satisfying, successful relationships. Contact me today  to schedule a complimentary phone consultation, to schedule your first office visit.  I look forward to hearing from you!
