Individual Counseling

"... all relationships are with yourself - and sometimes they involve other people ... the most important relationship in your life - the one you have, like it or not, until the day you die - is with yourself".  - Peter McWilliams

Individual Counseling is uniquely designed for you.  We will customize a counseling plan specifically to fit your needs, schedule, and personality.  Many individuals seek counseling to experience personal growth; we identify strengths, develop greater self knowledge, stronger interpersonal skills, and  more creative problem solving abilities. In other words, these individuals use counseling to take their lives to "the next level". This work typically involves setting goals, overcoming obstacles, developing action plans, and implementing them.

Others are currently in emotional distress and seek counseling for relief, and to build stronger coping skills to better manage or prevent such emotional pain from occurring in the future.  I am prepared to make medical referrals when necessary, and have extensive experience working with individuals who are in emotional distress which can be expressed in any of the following symptoms:

  • Relationship problems, instability
  • Persistent sadness and crying
  • Feeling "empty"
  • Excessive worry; nervousness
  • Sleep problems
  • Social Anxiety
  • Feelings of inadequacy
  • Irritability
  • Feelings of guilt, anger, resentment or hopelessness
  • Low self-esteem; excessive self blame

We will work to restore your emotional balance, and then toward understanding the purpose these symptoms have served.  Like a migraine or toothache, emotional symptoms are a signal telling us that something is not working well.  When you are an active participant in counseling, you can expect many of the following benefits.

Outcomes of counseling:

Self understanding; awareness of needs

Reliable strategies for coping

Higher energy level

Increased creativity

Better frustration tolerance

More realistic expectations of yourself and others

Decrease in symptoms; ability to manage them if still present

Report higher satisfaction with relationships

Most people start to experience improvement within the first 2-4 weeks of counseling.  Why wait to start creating the life you want? Contact me today for a complimentary phone consultation, or to schedule your first office visit.
